The steering wheel of vintage cars was made of a hard material similar to bone. Currently, the prestige of owners who own one or more cars of the last century is increasing in direct proportion to the age of the technology, and can reach unprecedented heights.

Instructions

Step 1

Restoration of vintage vehicles is an occupation that cannot be called cheap. And if the materials for giving a shining shine to the body were always on sale, then the repair of the steering wheel until recently was complicated by their shortage. The gorgeous appearance of the car can easily cross out a cracked steering wheel rim.

Step 2

Of course, the way out of this situation can be putting on a leather cover on the steering wheel, or replacing an old part with a modern steering wheel. But then the "zest" of the rarity will be lost.

Step 3

The emergence of multicomponent polymer compounds on the market eased the "torment" of restorers. From now on, restoring the original appearance of the steering wheel has been greatly simplified. For these purposes, for example, the acrylic composition AST-T is used. The essence of the repair is as follows:

- all cracks are expanded with the help of an improvised tool up to 2-3 mm, - then a coloring pigment is gradually added to the plastic, achieving full color matching;

- the ready-made compound is used to fill the grooves and cracks in the steering wheel rim so that it protrudes somewhat above the surface of the part being repaired;

- places filled with plastic are wrapped with electrical tape, - after half an hour, the tape is removed, and they begin to grind and polish the restored surface of the steering wheel rim.

Step 4

Acrylic plastic mass has the ability to polymerize at room temperature for a short period of time. It is resistant to various fuels and lubricants, alkalis and acids on its surface.
