Instructions
Step 1
Cars of the "classic line" of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant are equipped with a steering rod consisting of three elements with six joints. The appearance of a backlash in one tip provokes the formation of unacceptable gaps in the other five in a short period of time. This feature of outdated technology requires the owner to constantly monitor the condition of the steering rods.
Step 2
Preparations for the release in Togliatti of cars with front-wheel drive set the designers the task of developing a new steering mechanism. As a result of the introduction of innovative solutions into production, new cars were equipped with two rods with one tip on each. If a backlash is formed in any of them during operation, then the wheel is removed from the machine, and the repaired side is installed on a rigid support.
Step 3
At the beginning of work, the cotter pin (if any) is removed from the fastening of the steering pin to the trunnion. Using a metal brush, the threaded joints of the hinge are cleaned from deposits, which are then treated with WD-40 liquid.
Step 4
A 27 mm wrench is used to loosen the lock nut of the tip fastening in the rod. Next, you need to remove the hinge from the articulation with the pivot pin. To this end:
- using a 19 mm wrench, unscrew the steering pin fastening nut, - a puller is installed at the junction of the hinge with the rack, - by the screw of the device, the pin is squeezed out of the seat of the pivot pin.
Step 5
Now we put on any suitable spanner wrench on our finger and begin to unscrew the hinge from the steering rod, counting the number of revolutions made, which is equivalent to the number of threads of the tip thread.
Step 6
Further steps are performed in reverse order. After replacing the tie rod ends, be sure to check the geometry of the front wheels.
