There may be several reasons for replacing the tie rod. One of them is the wear of the ball pins of the steering rods. And if the gap between the nut and the steering rack stop is increased, then you may have to completely replace the rack.

It is necessary

  • - spanners;
  • - center punch;
  • - nippers;
  • - screwdriver.

Instructions

Step 1

Let us consider the replacement of the steering rod using the example of the Oka car. To work, you will need the usual set of tools in these cases: wrenches, center punch, wire cutters and a screwdriver. First, loosen the locknut of the outer tie rod end and unscrew the tie rod end, mentally counting and memorizing the number of revolutions that will be necessary when installing the tip.

Step 2

Then unscrew the tip locknut and remove the clamps from the outer and inner seating rims of the protective boot. Carefully pry and remove the inner rim of the boot from the tie rod housing. Now you can remove the protective cover and disassemble the collar of the ball joint locknut using a wrench inserted all the way between the end of the crankcase and the locknut.

Step 3

In the next step, loosen the locknut and tighten and twist the ball off the steering rack. This way the link is disconnected and you can remove the ball joint.

Step 4

Your next action will be to remove the thrust stop and the compression spring from the hole in the rail. As a rule, the hole in the rail and other dismantled parts are covered with old grease and a layer of dirt and must be cleaned. After a thorough inspection, replace the worn parts - ball joints, thrust stops or damaged protective boot. Lubricate the hole in the rack and the ball joint with grease, then you can install the spring and the tie rod stop in the rack hole so that the spherical part is out.

Step 5

The ball joint should be installed and screwed in so that there is no backlash, and so that the rod moves freely in the support. There is very little left - tighten the lock nut, close the collar, install the protective cover and fix it with new clamps. You can consider the work completed after installing the protective cover and fixing it with new clamps, checking the tightness of the cover rims and installing the outer rod end.
