A crunch when starting off is the first sign that the CV joint is out of order. Unfortunately, the drivers themselves become the culprit for the grenades becoming unusable. It is necessary to monitor the condition of the anthers and change them at the slightest defects.
The grenade is a metal mechanism with a bearing inside. There are external and internal grenades (the correct name is CV joint, constant velocity joint). The outer ones are installed in the wheel hub of the VAZ 2108-21099, and the inner ones are installed in the gearbox. The grenades cannot be repaired, therefore, if they fail, it is necessary to replace them with new ones. Particular attention should be paid to anthers, since sand and water that gets on the CV joint lead to its rapid wear.
Removing grenades on a VAZ 21099
Work must be carried out on a viewing pit or overpass. Place the car on the handbrake and fix the rear wheel with wheel chocks. Now the most difficult thing is to rip off the nuts that secure the grenade to the wheel. To do this, you need a 30 socket wrench, and in order to do everything successfully, you need a good lever. The best option is to make an extension from a piece of pipe.
Next, raise the car on a jack, put it on a support and remove the wheel. Now you need to disconnect the steering rod from the strut steering knuckle. This is done using a special puller. And the ball joint can be simply unscrewed, it is not necessary to press out it. Just try not to damage the anthers, otherwise you will have to change them.
Now that the rack is free, you need to turn it to the right or left (depending on which side of the car you are working on), remove the hub from the CV joint. It should fall out, now it only remains to remove the inner one, which is in the box. For this, a viewing hole is needed, because it is much more convenient to do this operation in it. A grenade is extracted using a crowbar.
Installing a grenade and precautions
Together with the CV joints, it is necessary to change the anthers. Even if the old ones were in satisfactory condition, it is better to replace them with new ones for reliability. In addition, new clamps must be installed. Never remove both inner grenades from the box. If you remove all of them, then the position of the differential mechanism will be violated, which will lead to the impossibility of installing the CV joints.
First, remove one grenade, replace it with a plug. The old inner CV joint is perfect. And only after installing the plug, take out the second grenade. In general, the installation of grenades takes place in the reverse order of disassembly. Remember to tighten all screw connections securely. And also change the rings that serve to fix the shafts.
