Necessary

  • - new steering wheel
  • - set of wrenches
  • - flat screwdriver
  • - a knife with a thin blade
  • - pencil or crayon
  • - rubber mallet

Instructions

Step 1

Disconnect the battery. Remove the wire from the negative terminal to protect yourself during work. Then remove the key from the ignition so that it does not interfere with your work, and turn the steering wheel until it locks.

At this stage, it will be advisable to apply marks on the steering column and dashboard using a pencil or crayon to put the new steering wheel straight.

Step 2

Remove the steering wheel cover. For some models, it will be enough to remove the nameplate with a screwdriver or knife, behind which the rest of the fasteners will be hidden. On other cars, you can find a design that resembles a cover. We get rid of it either by detaching the standard fasteners, or, if the fasteners are not visible, we pry the cover with a knife or screwdriver. Do not damage the mounts!

After that, disconnect the horn and remove it to get to the fastening nut.

Step 3

Unscrew the steering wheel mounting nut. Here the key-head for 24 comes in handy: with its help, it will be easy and simple to unscrew the nut, which is difficult to access for other models of keys.

Step 4

Remove the old steering wheel and install a new one. The steering wheel must be gently swayed from side to side to smoothly pull towards you. If, after these manipulations, it does not give in, you can apply light blows to the back of the steering wheel either with a rubber mallet, or simply with your hands, so as not to crumble the plastic and damage the parts of the steering column that you did not plan to change. Has the old steering wheel been removed? Congratulations! It remains to install a new steering wheel in accordance with your marks, secure it with a nut and assemble the front part, not forgetting to connect the horn.
