The procedure for changing the oil in a car engine is a necessary and probably the most important step in all maintenance. The engine is the main part of the car and requires careful handling. Often beginners doubt their own abilities and do not undertake to change the oil on their own. However, in fact, it is very simple and within the power of even an inexperienced car enthusiast.

It is necessary

  • - a wrench for the oil plug;
  • - container for waste oil;
  • - torque wrench;
  • - jack;
  • - anti-rollback stop;
  • - funnel;
  • - new press washer for the cork;
  • - new oil filter;
  • - filter remover;
  • - new oil.

Instructions

Step 1

Start the car and warm up the engine to normal operating temperature. It is advisable to drive a few kilometers so that the oil warms up and is evenly distributed throughout the engine.

Step 2

Choose a level, hard surfaced area. Put the car on the handbrake and in gear to prevent unintentional rolling. Jack up one side of the vehicle. Install the safety support. Secure the rear wheels with wheel chocks or place a solid object (stone or log).

Step 3

While the oil is hot and has a high fluidity, place a prepared container under the drain plug and unscrew this plug. The cork may burn and it will take considerable effort to unscrew it. It is important not to damage the tube slot.

Step 4

Open the filler hole and let the oil drain completely. This is indicated by the absence of oil droplets. Remember that the oil is hot and can cause burns. Eye contact is especially dangerous.

Step 5

While the oil is draining, unscrew the oil filter. The filter can also be burnt and it will take considerable effort to unscrew it.

Step 6

Now you need to install a new oil filter and screw the drain plug. Remember to replace the O-ring on the drain plug. Pay close attention to the effort you apply when twisting. It is best to use a torque wrench and adjust the tightening force according to the instructions. But if there is no such key, then you can just carefully tighten the thread to a reasonable limit. There is some balance of effort. If the plug is tightened too loosely, oil will leak. If overtightened, the thread will be damaged. The same situation is with the filter. An overstretched filter will leak as well as an understretched one.

Step 7

Next, you need to fill in new engine oil. Lower the car from the jack. Make sure it is horizontal. Pour about ¾ of the prepared volume through the filling hole. Determine the volume according to the instructions. If there is an overflow of oil, then the excess will have to be drained. It is necessary to achieve such a level that the level on the dipstick is between the C and H marks.

Step 8

Close the filler hole with the plug. Start the engine and let it idle for 5-10 minutes. Now stop the engine and check the oil level with the dipstick. If the oil is less than necessary, feel free to add the required amount of oil. Keep in mind that you should also add oil slowly. The level jumps up very quickly.

Step 9

Drive the vehicle normally and check the engine oil level regularly. Also, make sure that there are no smudges under the oil filter and on the engine.
