Pads are one of the most important parts of a car's braking system. These components require the most attention and maintenance. A faulty braking system is not able to stop the car in a short time and this can be dangerous not only for the driver, but also for those around him. If you notice signs of wear, the damaged parts must be replaced.
It is necessary
- - Key with a diameter of 15 mm;
- - Rag or rags;
- - Crowbar;
- - Jack;
- - Needle-nose pliers;
- - New brake pads;
- - Braking grease based on copper;
- - Funnel (if necessary);
- - Brake fluid (if necessary).
Instructions
Step 1
Loosen the nuts on the wheels you need to replace with a 21mm wrench and a pry bar.
Step 2
Open the hood of the vehicle and remove the master cylinder cover. Inside it is the brake fluid. The reservoir is located near the bulkhead on the right side of the engine compartment. Place a rag under the reservoir of the master cylinder to avoid losing solid parts when draining the fluid.
Step 3
Jack up the vehicle. To do this, place a jack under the vehicle frame. Place something under the wheels to prevent the machine from falling.
Step 4
Remove all visible nuts and discs. Remove the two side bolts on the back of the caliper with a wrench. Turn the front wheels for better bolt access. On the rear wheels, it will be necessary to first remove the caliper to get to the bolts.
Step 5
Disconnect the caliper from the rotor and bracket. Grasp the brake pad retaining clips with needle nose pliers and pull. Separate the brake pads from the caliper.
Step 6
Remove the clips from the back of the caliper. Rotate the wrench clockwise to remove the brake pads from the caliper. Then separate them from the main part.
Step 7
Place the new brake pads in the caliper. Use pliers to replace the clips around the brake pads. Reinstall the caliper onto the bracket.
Step 8
Apply a light coat of brake grease to the threads of the bolts and holes in the back of the caliper. Tighten the bolts with a wrench. Repeat steps 5 through 11 for the brakes on the opposite side of the vehicle.
Step 9
Replace wheel bolts and nuts by hand. Raise the vehicle slightly with a jack to remove the wheel stands. Lower the jack and tighten all bolts with a pry bar.
Step 10
Repeat the entire process for the brake pads on the other wheels if you are changing them too. Press the brake pedal, hold it for 10 seconds. Repeat the action until it begins to respond with a normal resistance level. This means that the piston of the brake cylinder is in place and the brakes are working again.
Step 11
Remove the rag from under the master cylinder reservoir and check the brake fluid level in it. Add some brake fluid if necessary. Do not pour liquid to the brim, otherwise it may splash when screwing on the cap. Replace the brake cylinder cover and close the hood of the vehicle.
