Brake pads on cars very often fail. In this case, you can contact a car repair shop, where you will have to pay a considerable amount for the work or replace them yourself.

It is necessary

  • - Span keys with dimensions of 13 and 50 millimeters;
  • - Hexagon wrench size 32 mm;
  • - Adjustable socket wrench;
  • - Chisel and hammer;
  • - Nail puller.

Instructions

Step 1

Remove the floating caliper by unscrewing the two screws on the back. The task can be simplified by removing the handbrake cable before doing so. Do not allow the caliper to damage the hydraulic brake pipe during removal.

Step 2

Press down on the piston and remove the brake fluid reservoir in the engine compartment. Watch the fluid level when pushing the pistons, as this will raise the brake fluid level. Keep a container of some kind on hand to collect any spilled liquid. Remember that brake fluid is very corrosive and should not be allowed to come into contact with internal engine parts. You should use one of the wrenches to push the plunger or you could get hurt.

Step 3

Remove old pads and set them aside. Remember their location before removing.

Step 4

Remove the fixed part of the caliper using a 50mm wrench. This is quite difficult due to the tightness of the nuts.

Step 5

Remove the nut on the hub cap using a chisel and hammer. Tapping gently around her. After a while, she will go away by herself. The edges of the cover may not fit well into the recess when reinstalled.

Step 6

Unscrew the nut on the hub. For obvious reasons, it is also tightly screwed. Remove the old drive.

Step 7

Depending on where you bought your new rims, they may come with an ABS ring on them. It is a metal ring with built-in magnets that the sensors use to measure the speed and impulse of the brake when ABS is active. If you compare old and new discs, you can easily understand whether the new ones have such rings or not. If not, buy a new set separately, or remove them from your old discs.

Step 8

Insert new discs, replace hub nuts and tighten. Assemble the caliper and new pads. Bleed the brakes several times so that the piston hits the pads. Make sure you can still rotate the dials manually. Replace the wheel and turn several times. If it makes two or more turns, then everything is done correctly.

Step 9

Replace the brake fluid reservoir. Then turn on the engine to check if the brakes and ABS are working. If you do something wrong, the dashboard will display malfunction warnings. Repeat the process for the other wheels.
