A caring owner constantly monitors the condition of his iron horse and fixes all problems on time. For example, over time, the interior of a car may become unusable (this is especially true for inexpensive cars in which the interiors are upholstered in cheap fabric). In this case, it is necessary to re-tighten the car seats.
Necessary
Material, tracing paper, scissors, threads, needles, a sewing machine, a piece of soap, chalk
Instructions
Step 1
Check your vehicle manual. It always has a diagram of the structure of the seats, as well as the arrangement of their fastenings. It is very inconvenient to do the hauling in the car, so you need to dismantle the seats and take them out. Usually, skids are bolted to the floor of the car, along which the roof rails move. Remove the rail fuses. Move the seat as far forward as possible and pull it up. It will be removed. Remove the front passenger seat in the same way. The back sofa can be removed in two parts - first the lower cushion, and then the back.
Step 2
Decide how you will fit the seats. If the upholstery material is in excellent condition, and you just want to change the look of the interior, then you can make covers. This process is less time consuming. Also, a plus of the covers is that they can be washed periodically.
Step 3
Select the material for making. It is worth considering not only your own desires, but also practicality. The material should be easy to wear off and not very dirty. Covers should be one centimeter larger than the seats themselves.
Step 4
If the seat upholstery has become unusable, then you will have to replace it. To do this, remove the old upholstery, having previously dismantled the head restraints. Lower them down as much as possible, pull them slightly towards you and pull them up with a sharp movement. Find the stitching on the back of the headrest. Carefully open the threads and remove the fabric. There are plastic inserts on the sides of the seat. Unscrew the screws that hold them. Find a seam under the inserts. Unplug it and remove the old upholstery from the chair.
Step 5
Make a pattern based on the measurements of the old upholstery. It is best to use tracing paper for this. Try to double-check everything carefully to avoid mistakes. Leave a small supply of material in difficult places. Apply the pattern to the new material. If the material is dark, use chalk or a small bar of soap. If the material is light, then use a special pencil or felt-tip pen and mark on the back. Cut out the blanks.
Step 6
Take a chair and check the condition of the foam. If it becomes unusable, replace it with a new one. Place the blanks on the seat and secure them with needles. This is necessary in order to understand the exact position of the seams. Basting with medium stitches. Take out all the needles. Remove the upholstery. Sew the seams with the sewing machine. Take out the basting thread. Sew in a zipper at the back. Slip on the finished trim and zip at the back. Make the upholstery for all seats in the same way.
