The steering wheel is the part of the car that the driver deals with most often, a "purely personal" part, so to speak. Car enthusiasts change the steering wheel configuration according to their tastes on several occasions. For example, over time, factory upholstery has worn out under the influence of factors such as: friction, dirt and sweat from hands to the surface, heat from the sun. One way to eliminate all these troubles is to cover the steering wheel with leather.

Instructions

Step 1

For help, you can turn to the masters who, for a reasonable fee, will do everything in the best possible way.

Step 2

If you do not want to resort to outside help, then you can perform this operation yourself.

To do this, you need to remove the factory upholstery first.

Step 3

Then wrap the steering wheel with cling film and cover with masking tape.

Step 4

Next step. You need to mark with a pencil or marker the places where the seams will go. It is best to make upholstery in four segments, because this is the easiest way and you will use less leather to cover it.

Step 5

Next, you need to cut the film with tape with a clerical knife along the outlined lines.

Step 6

The resulting parts must be numbered so that later there are no problems when stitching the skin.

Step 7

Then line up the resulting segments as much as possible. After flattening, they will decrease in size, due to the formation of the so-called wrinkles, which appear when the material passes from a volumetric state to a flat one.

Step 8

Next, transfer the whole thing to durable paper or cardboard, again not forgetting about the numbering. In truth, there is one small nuance to consider here. When transferring sizes to paper, they need to be reduced by three millimeters in those places where the leather will be stitched by hand. In places where the parts are connected along the perimeter of the steering wheel, the dimensions, on the contrary, must be increased by five millimeters.

Step 9

According to the resulting patterns, cut out the blanks from the leather, which will subsequently be used to tighten the steering wheel.

Step 10

Sew the pieces in order and sew around the perimeter with reinforced thread. The screed should be about five millimeters long. The firmware, of course, must be done on a sewing machine. If you don't have one, you can go to the nearest clothing repair shop, where your homemade leather case will be well sewn for you.

Step 11

Next, the workpiece is put on the steering wheel. If everything is done correctly, then the operation is difficult.

Step 12

The last thing left to do is to pull off your finished leather steering wheel cover with some pretty stitching.
