Xenon light in the automotive industry is gaining more and more popularity from year to year. Xenon has several advantages over other types of lamps, but it must be used correctly.
What is automotive xenon? The question is, of course, an interesting one, but first, a little history. The inert gas xenon, which is a by-product of the separation of air into nitrogen and oxygen, was isolated in 1898 by British scientists M. Travers and W. Ramsay. The use of xenon lamps in the automotive industry began in 1992.
Characteristics of automotive xenon
Xenon lamps have a fundamental design feature - they do not have a filament, which is most often destroyed due to vibration and normal wear and tear. Such a lamp consists of two electrodes, which are soldered into the bulb and filled with gas. To ignite a gas-discharge lamp, a voltage of about 25,000 volts is required, which the factory automobile network cannot produce, therefore special ignition units are used. After the lamp lights up, the voltage in it drops to 80-100 volts, sufficient for its working condition.
Xenon lamps differ in their glow temperature, which determines the color of the emitted light. It is measured in Kelvin. Xenon lamps with a luminescence temperature of 4300K give a white glow with a slight yellowness, 5000K - white, 6000K - blue-white, and 8000K - blue. If the temperature of xenon exceeds 8000K, then it loses its efficiency, and it will be almost impossible to ride with it in wet weather.
The advantages of car xenon
Automotive xenon has several advantages over other types of lamps. For starters, this is a long service life, which exceeds that of halogen lamps by an average of five times. In addition, xenon lamps consume about 40% less electricity, which has a beneficial effect on fuel consumption, and the car network is less congested.
Gas discharge lamps are not subject to strong heating, which results in less heating of the optics. Well, the main advantage of xenon is their strong brightness, which is about three times higher than that of halogen ones. If the xenon light is installed correctly, then using it does not tire the eyesight, and also improves visibility in poor conditions and at night. Discharge lamps reflect more intensely off road signs and markings, which is especially important at night. It is also worth noting that the low-beam xenon light contributes to the expansion of the illumination zone, and the high-beam one - lengthening.
