If the windshield is cracked, chipped, or if the rubber seal is cracked, replace the old car glass with a new one. You can insert the windshield yourself without resorting to the help of auto repair shops.

Necessary

New car windshield, degreaser, primer, sealant, rubber seal, rubber glass holders

Instructions

Step 1

Before you start installing a new windshield, the old one must be removed. You also need to carefully remove the remnants of the old rubber seal, cut off the remaining sealant from the recess in the car under the windshield.

Step 2

Apply a degreasing agent to the surface where the glass will be inserted. Treat the entire perimeter of the grooves with a primer that is suitable for the glass sealant. Apply the product with a special applicator or a piece of sponge. Let the sealant dry for 20 minutes.

Step 3

The new windshield must be clean and free of factory decals. Slide a gasket or molding over it, attaching it to the glass surface with tape. Try not to use the old seal for this purpose, as it usually suffers when removing the old glass. Apply a degreaser to the silkscreen strip on the windshield. Treat the glass with a primer or automotive primer. Allow the applied composition to dry for 15-20 minutes.

Step 4

Glue the edges of the glass with sealant with an even layer of 10-15 mm. Now, together with an assistant, take the glass (with rubber suction cups-holders) and put it neatly in its place. Be careful: how you apply the glass will determine how tight it will be. After installing the windshield, put the wipers, "frill" in your grooves.

Step 5

It is very important to install car glass on glue at a certain temperature. It should not be too low, otherwise the sealant will not cure properly. In addition, in cold weather it is very difficult to work with various chemical mixtures to replace glass in a car. Make sure that all processes take place in a warm garage or insulated box.
