A small stone hitting the glass while driving on the road can cause a lot of trouble. Chips, cracks, scratches and "cobwebs" grow over time. At the same time, traffic rules dictate to drivers that there is no place for a car with a damaged windshield on the road.

Necessary

New glass, sealing rubber, sealing mastic or special cream with silicone, long cord with a diameter of 4-5 mm, screwdriver, wooden wedge, wooden or metal spatula

Instructions

Step 1

First, remove the old cracked glass. This operation will largely depend on the make and model of your vehicle. On some machines it is necessary to remove the fastening screws. On others, simply remove the trim frames and, by pushing the upper (for the windshield) or lower (for the rear window) corners from the body interior, remove the glass from the seal.

Step 2

Then remove the sealant from the entire perimeter of the opening using a wooden wedge. Clean the body from the old mastic at the point of glass attachment.

Step 3

Carefully and carefully pull the new sealing rubber along the contour of the glass to be installed.

Step 4

Tuck a cord - a long, strong twisted rope - into the special groove on the outside of the seal. Leave the free ends at the top (about 40 cm each).

Step 5

Apply sealing compound to the edges of the body opening. This silicone cream line should be continuous and 3-5mm thick. This will make it easier to fit your windshield or rear window.

Step 6

Insert the glass so that the remaining free ends of the assembly cord are inside the car. Press down lightly on the glass and call someone for help.

Step 7

Climb into the interior of the car and pull the rope out of the groove at both ends at the same time so that the tongue of the rubber seal goes over the protruding flange of the body opening. Explain to your partner that he should press the glass from the outside in sync with you.

Step 8

Fill the seal in the lower part of the opening, if necessary, using a wooden or metal spatula. When the seal "sits" in place, secure the glass with an edging, which will press the seal against the frame and isolate the interior from moisture.

Step 9

Check the tightness of the installation by sprinkling the glass outside with a weak stream of water. Coat the detected gaps with mastic additionally.

Step 10

Contact a car service for glass replacement. After the repair, be sure to save the work order and the cashier's receipt, which confirms what has been done, in order to be fully prepared if the installation defects do not manifest themselves immediately, but during the pouring rain.
