If you have a broken battery on your hands, you can try to restore it. Of course, in some cases, for example, if it is frozen over and the electrolyte immediately boils when charging, it is impossible to do this. In case of some other malfunctions - sulphation, partial destruction of carbon plates - the battery's performance can be restored.

Necessary

  • - electrolyte;
  • - distilled water;
  • - Charger;
  • - small hydrometer;
  • - tester;
  • - a desulfating additive.

Instructions

Step 1

Drain electrolyte. Rinse the battery with distilled water. Shake, flip, shake out all the debris. Do this until the charcoal is no longer washed out. If this does not happen, then the carbon plates are destroyed. Stop flushing - nothing will help your battery. However, quite often this procedure helps to eliminate the closure of the plates.

Step 2

The next step is to remove salt deposits on the plates. Fill the battery with fresh electrolyte. Add a desulfurizing agent. Leave the battery for two days. During this time, the additive will dissolve, air bubbles rise to the surface. If necessary, add electrolyte to the nominal volume. By the way, the additive can be dissolved in advance.

Step 3

Remove plugs, connect charger. At this stage, "training" is to be done. charging and discharging the battery until its normal capacity is restored. Set the charging current to approximately 0.1 A. Make sure that the electrolyte does not heat up. Reduce the charging current if necessary. Watch the voltage at the terminals. It should reach 2, 3-2, 4 V for each battery section.

Step 4

Reduce the current by half and continue charging. If within two hours the voltage at the terminals does not change, stop charging. Bring the density up to nominal. To do this, add electrolyte or distilled water.

Step 5

Connect a light bulb to the battery, the current of which is approximately 0.5-1 A. Discharge the battery until the voltage at the terminals is 1.7 V for each section. If the capacity does not reach the nominal value, repeat the charging cycle and add some more additive to the electrolyte. Close the plugs. Your battery has been restored to health. In the future, follow the general recommendations for battery maintenance.
