Nowadays, when most locks on cars are opened with an alarm panel or a key, almost no one is worried about the problem of frozen locks. However, what to do if you need to open the hood from the outside with a key, and after frost or another wash in winter everything froze? Or, for example, how to open the hood of a VAZ in such a situation if it does not provide for automatic opening?
Instructions
Step 1
First, keep a special locks defrost agent in your pocket for such cases. Sprinkle a few drops of this liquid on the frozen larva, and after 1-2 minutes, use the key.
Step 2
If such a tool is not at hand, in order to defrost the lock, it must be warmed up. However, try to do this in such a way that the enamel of the machine or any plastic parts are not damaged. The ideal option in such a situation is a hair dryer. If possible, stretch the extension cord to the car and use a hairdryer to warm up the lock that will open the hood. It will take you very little time and will not damage the surface of the car.
Step 3
If there is no electricity nearby, use a simple method: heat the key with a lighter and, while it is still warm, insert it into the lock. This method rarely works the first time, but after several attempts, the lock will open. The main thing is not to overdo it in heating the key, so as not to burn it or melt the plastic part. Then it will be almost impossible to open the hood.
Step 4
If you did not have a lighter at hand, or the previous method does not help, remember the old proven method. Get 2-3 glasses of hot water: it can even be tea from a kiosk, if there are no other options, and spray it on the frozen hood lock. Just remember that during the watering process you will inevitably get hot water on the body of the car, which is bad for the enamel, so try to use as little water as possible.
Step 5
After you have opened the lock, do not forget to blow it out with air. To do this, immediately visit a nearby tire workshop, car service or car wash. Or use the most common tire inflation pump. After air drying, treat the lock cylinder with an anti-ice agent.
