When talking about an engine overhaul, the first thing that comes to mind is cylinder bore. As the cylinders get slightly larger, the next oversize pistons must be used. But there are still many units that need to be replaced during repairs.

Overhaul of an engine is a huge set of measures aimed at replacing worn out units, which, over time, function poorly and perform their duties with difficulty. Today, when it is easy to buy an engine, since it comes as a spare part, and not a registered unit, you can buy an analogue and gradually carry out its overhaul. And the old engine will be on the car. You get the advantage of having your vehicle at full speed during repairs. Unless, of course, the engine is jammed on it and works at least half the strength.

What's the first thing to do?

To begin with, you should evaluate the production of the liners. If there is nowhere to bore them, then you will need to install new sleeves. It is unrealistic to do this at home, so try to find a good master in advance. If boring is required to the next repair size, then it is advisable to also contact a turner, who often does this business. After boring, the surface needs to be honed. You may be offered to do this either under the mirror, or with a net. It is better to choose the first option, since the mesh is erased after a short time, and the compression drops dramatically.

Installing lightweight pistons and connecting rods will help increase engine power. Please note that if your car has pistons with scraping (recesses for valves), then install exactly the same. If there are no recesses, then when the timing belt breaks, the pistons will surely meet the valves and bend them. And this threatens to repair the cylinder head, it will pour out even on domestic cars in a round sum.

What else should you pay attention to?

While the unit is disassembled, try to clean all the channels of the cooling system. Indeed, under the influence of temperature and liquid, scale deposits and metal destruction are possible. All channels in the lubrication system should also be cleaned. Do not use abrasive substances to avoid damaging the surfaces of the unit. A lot of shavings and old oil accumulate in the pallet, so carefully clean it from dirt.

Since we have touched on the lubrication system, then do not forget about the oil pump. Ideally, it should be replaced with a new one, since the gears of the old one will necessarily have a large gap, which is why the oil pressure drops sharply. But you also need to adjust the new pump, grind off the housing a little so that the clearances are minimal. This is called oil pump troubleshooting. Also try to install new valves, do not forget to grind them well and subsequently adjust. And after repairs, be sure to run in. There is no need to do it on new cars, since all parts are perfectly ground in. But with manual assembly, such accuracy cannot be achieved. Thousand and ten kilometers feel sorry for the engine, after it will serve you for a long time.
