The safe movement of a vehicle in poor visibility conditions depends on the correct operation of car wipers or, as they are called, wipers. If the mechanism breaks down, try to repair it yourself without resorting to the services of specialists.
Necessary
- - a set of automotive tools;
- - gasoline;
- - fine-grained sanding paper.
Instructions
Step 1
Before starting self-repair, disconnect the brushes and eyelashes from the main structure and turn off the wipers. Dismantle the brush holders with wipers and unscrew the fastening nuts of the leashes. Clean the parts from dirt and wash them in gasoline.
Step 2
Remember the sequence of dismantling the structural parts for the correct assembly of the wipers after their repair. Otherwise, there is a high probability of making a mistake and installing the wipers in a static vertical position. Remove the rod from the gearbox and, using a 10 mm wrench, unscrew the bolts securing the electric motor to the bracket.
Step 3
Take out the geared motor, remove the protective film from its housing and disassemble the plastic cover together with the sealing gasket. Release the anchor and clean all parts of the mechanism from dust and old grease. Check the electronic wiper diagram shown graphically on the instrument case.
Step 4
Check the operation of the gears. If rotation is difficult or uneven movement of parts is found, lightly sand their contacting surfaces with fine-grained sanding paper. Check the electrical fuses responsible for the operation of the wipers. Remember that in most cases, wiper breakage is caused by a malfunction of these mechanisms.
Step 5
Replace the broken and worn parts with new ones and assemble the mechanism in the reverse order. For effective operation of the wipers, adjust them with leashes and position them so that the instrument brushes are constantly pressed against the car glass.
Step 6
Please note that in some cases, for example, when replacing the trapezium of the wiper, the repair of the mechanism must be entrusted to an experienced specialist, contacting an automobile service center for help. Remember, operating the car with faulty wipers is unsafe and can create an emergency.
