Choosing tires for a car is a responsible process. The safety of the driver and passengers depends on the correct decision. Indeed, at different times of the year, the road surface is different, which means that the tires must be different.
Tires can be compared to human shoes. It is not very convenient to walk in the same one in winter and summer. But for cars, universal "shoes" were still invented. Car tires are of three types:
- winter (snow), suitable for snowy roads and moving on ice;
- summer (highway), for clean asphalt;
- universal or all-season (all season), for different roads, but in mild climates.
Winter tires
The roads are often covered with snow and ice in winter, and the temperature outside the window is low. It is for these conditions that winter tires are suitable. They are made of special rubber, which does not lose its elasticity even in severe frosts. At the same time, good traction with the road is ensured, and the braking distance is reduced.
There are two types of tread patterns: Scandinavian and European. Difference in groove depth and checker placement. Both species are stable in the snow, allowing you to drive on ice without any problems. And also the tires can be studded and non-studded. Moving on a well-groomed road, on ice, is very convenient with thorns. They create adhesion to the surface, which reduces accidents. But in snow or mud, they are ineffective, since the surface does not allow "catching".
Summer tires
Summer tires are made of hard materials that tolerate heat well, but are not effective in cold weather. The checkers in the figure are large, and wear indicators are installed in the central grooves of the tread. On dry asphalt these tires feel great and are comfortable in warm weather. But if these tires are used in winter, the grip will be poor. The pattern will quickly become clogged with snow and the braking distance will increase many times. An important difference between summer tires is their quietness on the road.
Universal tires
All-season rubber options are popular in countries with mild climates. In Russia, they are not suitable for all regions. Their huge plus is that they can be used at any time of the year. But there is a lot of debate about their safety.
In the off-season, such options are great, for example, during the rain, they hold grip better than others. But in snowdrifts, they pose a danger to life. Yes, and with hot asphalt they can wear out quickly.
Tires and safety
To keep the car safe, it is important to change the tires on time. In summer, you should not move in winter and vice versa. Another important point is that all tires must be the same. It is strictly forbidden to use 2 summer and 2 winter options.
When buying rubber for your car, make sure it matches the brand of the car that is suitable for installation. In order not to be mistaken, consult with your master, not the seller in the salon.
Watch for tire wear. With proper operation, they will last for several years, but you will have to buy new ones on time. New tires have better grip than those that have already been partially worn out.
