Lost charging or hearing a whistle from the generator? Then you will have to carry out a number of measures that will allow you to identify the malfunction and eliminate it. The simplest breakdown is the wear of the brushes or the breakdown of the relay-regulator. It is eliminated by replacing the brush assembly; there is no need to remove the generator.
In a VAZ 2107 car, there are two power sources - a battery that powers the systems when the engine is turned off, and a generator that provides current to all circuits when the engine is running, plus it charges the battery. You can ride without a battery, you will have to start only from a tug and turn on the load on the terminals. But without a generator you will not ride for a long time.
On the sevens, the generator has three power windings, they are connected according to the "star" scheme. That is, the beginnings of the windings are interconnected, and an alternating three-phase voltage is removed from the ends. Yes, our generator produces exactly three phases. And in order to obtain a constant voltage, there is a semiconductor rectifier with six diodes.
Troubleshooting
So, there was a nuisance, the lamp on the dashboard came on, the battery did not light up. What to do? Pay attention to the belt first. It is possible that it is simply loosened and the generator pulley does not rotate. To remedy the situation, you just need to tighten the strap. The second thing on the surface is the oxidation of the contacts. Carefully inspect the relay-regulator, one wire goes to it, which can oxidize. From this, charging disappears.
Is the lamp off and the battery is losing its charge? At the same time, the belt is tensioned according to all the rules? We'll have to disassemble the dashboard and replace the lamp. Either it burned out, or the wiring is broken. Frequent breakdown is the erasure of the brushes or the breakdown of the relay-regulator. Structurally, these two elements are combined in one body, in case of breakdown, only replace them with new ones. A breakdown of one or more diodes will also lead to a lack of charging.
The mechanics are not eternal, if you hear a whistle from the generator, then one thing can be said - the bearing on the front cover has failed. It usually breaks from over-tensioning the belt. Therefore, when adjusting, be sure to make sure that it is pulled moderately. Too strong an interference leads to very rapid wear of the bearing, and too weak, as mentioned earlier, to a lack of charging.
We carry out repairs
Replacing the regulator relay is the easiest thing to do. It is enough to unscrew two bolts, remove the regulator, install a new one and tighten. You just have to disconnect the negative terminal, you do not need to completely remove the generator. But if the breakdown lies in the bearing or diode bridge, then you will need to completely remove the generator and disassemble it. Remember to disconnect the battery when carrying out work.
The generator is fastened from above (on the bracket with which the belt is tensioned) and from below (to the engine block). Disassembly consists in dismantling the pulley, front and rear covers, armature, semiconductor diodes. In the front cover, the bearing is fixed with a plate that must be removed when replacing. You will have to knock out the bearing using a piece of tube of a suitable diameter. Try not to overdo it by tapping gently with a hammer to evenly pull the bearing out of its seat.
To test the diode bridge, you will have to unsolder each semiconductor. Basic continuity with a tester or, if there is none, with a lamp and a constant current source. A semiconductor is an element that conducts current in one direction. First, connect the plus to the anode and the minus to the cathode. Then change the position of the wires. In one case, the current should pass, and in the other not (or there will be some resistance). Having identified a faulty diode, it should be replaced.
