The lamp with the image of the battery on the dashboard lights up. Do not panic, since for the most part the malfunction lies on the surface. To fix it, you don't even need to remove the generator.

It is necessary

  • - multimeter;
  • - control lamp;
  • - wires;
  • - power supply with voltage regulator;
  • - a set of keys and screwdrivers.

Instructions

Step 1

Look at the warning lamp located on the dashboard. The mode of its operation is such that when the ignition is turned on, it burns, but when the engine is running, it goes out. If it stays on after starting the engine, the battery is not being charged. Check the voltage in the on-board network with a multimeter, it should not be less than 12 volts. The reason for the lamp to light up can be either a broken belt or a broken wiring. If the lamp burns in full heat, then there is a weak belt tension. In this case, you just need to tighten it to the required state.

Step 2

Check fuse F2 if the belt is tensioned, but the voltage in the on-board network is lower than specified. If it burns out, replace it, then check the presence of a charge on the battery. If the fuse is working properly, or after replacement no changes have occurred, and the voltage in the on-board network remains low, you will need to measure the voltage at terminal 61. Its value should be around 6 volts. If there is no voltage, then remove the dashboard and look for a malfunction in the soldering points, in the resistance, it is also possible that the wire going to the dashboard from pin 61 has simply broken.

Step 3

Remove the regulator relay if the voltage is present, but it is greater than 6 volts. Check it with a test lamp. To do this, you need to apply a voltage of 12 volts to the relay-regulator. Apply plus to the plug connector of the regulator, and minus to the body. A test lamp designed for a voltage of 12 volts, with a power of up to 3 watts, connect to the regulator brushes. At a supply voltage of 12 volts, the control lamp will light up. Boost the voltage to 16 volts. The lamp should go out. If this does not happen, then the relay-regulator is faulty. But if it is serviceable, but there is no charging, then you will have to remove the generator and look for a breakdown in it.

Step 4

Check the generator rotor winding with a multimeter. The field winding must have a resistance of 4.5 ohms. If it is less, then the whole malfunction lies in it. Replace the armature, or rewind the winding. It is possible that the slip rings are dirty. Clean, flush with solvent, or replace. If the multimeter still shows that there is an open circuit in the rotor winding, replace the rotor. But if everything is in order with the rotor winding, then check if there is a short circuit between the 30 output of the generator and the case. If there is, then you need to get rid of it.

Step 5

Diagnose the rectifier unit if there is no short circuit between ground and terminal 30 of the generator. To do this, you will need to check each diode for breakdown. A semiconductor conducts an electric current in only one direction, according to this property, diodes are checked. If several diodes have burned out and it is not possible to eliminate the breakdown in the rectifier unit, then replace it completely. But if the unit is working properly, then check the stator winding for a short circuit and an open circuit.
