The law of the Russian Federation provides that when purchasing a car, it must be registered within 5 days. And after receiving the transit license plates, you must register the car within the next 20 days.

Step 1
Be sure to get transit numbers within 5 days if your car is outside the territory to which the activities of the registration department were extended. Get "transit" signs at the location of your car in order to overtake the vehicle to the place of its direct registration. Upon receipt of such license plates in the document certifying the right to own this car, and in the passport of the vehicle itself, a mark “transit” is made and the series, numbers, date of issue and their validity period are indicated, which is then certified by the signature of the employee who issued these signs, as well as with the seal of the department.

Remember, in order to obtain transit numbers from the traffic police, you will need an invoice certificate, which you can take at the place of purchase of the car. Such numbers are issued using a plastic, metal or paper base. Their price is: 1000 rubles for metal or plastic and 100 rubles for paper. As a rule, it takes a whole day to independently obtain transit numbers. The owner of the car can apply for them to any department of the traffic police.
Step 3
Get transit license plates right when you buy your car. So, when purchasing a car at a car market, in a car dealership or in a thrift store, you can immediately receive them if the sellers have the appropriate registration. You will have to pay extra for such numbers, but you will be able to pick them up in a few hours, and you will not have to stand in line and fill out forms for this. All you need is a signature.

Be sure to draw up a sales contract when buying a car from a private person and do not forget to notarize it later. When contacting the traffic police, this document will confirm the legality of the purchase of a car, and you can easily get transit numbers. Fill out an application for license plates at the department, and at the specified time you can pick them up.
