In order to drive a vehicle, you must obtain the rights of a certain category. On November 5, 2013, a new law "On road safety" came into force, which introduced some amendments to the existing rules.
The received driver's license of one category makes it possible to drive certain vehicles. So, a driving license of category "B" gives a chance to drive cars, for legal riding on motorcycles you need to get a category "A".
Driving licenses of categories "A", "A1", "B", "B1"
A driving license of category "A" provides an opportunity to drive two-wheeled vehicles, including those with a trailer (sidecar). In addition, category "A" makes it possible to drive four-wheeled vehicles, the total weight of which is not more than four hundred kilograms. There is also a subcategory "A1", which provides the opportunity to ride modern motorcycles with a small engine capacity (no more than 125 cc and a reasonable power not exceeding 11 kW).
The rights of category "B" allow you to drive cars, as well as various minibuses and modern jeeps, the weight of which is not more than 3,500 kg, and the number of seats does not exceed 8, excluding the driver's license. Having received the rights of category "B", you can safely sit behind the wheel of cars with a certain type of trailer, the weight of which is no more than 750 kg. In order to drive a car with an oversized trailer, you must have a category "B1". Also, the B1 subcategory allows you to drive super new tricycles and modern ATVs, but they should not be confused with ATVs.
Driving licenses of categories "D", "D1", "M", "Tb" and "Tm"
The category "D" driving license is obtained for driving various buses with more than eight seats. This category also allows you to drive any bus with a trailer weighing no more than 750 kg. To be able to work with the heaviest trailers, it is imperative to obtain a license with the category "DE". People who are engaged in the carriage of passengers on gazelles and minibuses, where the number of seats is not less than 9 and not more than 16, must obtain the rights of the subcategory "D1". This subcategory also includes driving small buses with a trailer weighing less than 750 kg. The mass of the bus and trailer, in turn, should not exceed 12,000 tons. If you have a driver's license of category "D", it will be legal to drive the buses described above (D1), but if there is a category "DE", it is possible to drive buses with a trailer of category "D1E".
There is also an “M” license, which is required to legally drive mopeds and lightest quads. But drivers who have the rights of any category can drive these vehicles without obtaining an additional category "M".
Driving license categories "Tb" and "Tm" are required to work on trolleybuses and trams.
