But if the car is old, the range of road surface illumination with standard headlights may be insufficient. A number of measures to increase the headlight range will help correct the situation.

Step 1
The most likely reason for reduced headlamps is due to incorrect headlights. You can adjust the headlights yourself or by contacting a car workshop, where they will be tuned using special optical devices. For self-tuning, you must park a fully fueled and equipped vehicle on a level surface. Place a two meter by one meter screen, five meters from the front bumper, perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the machine. Draw a horizontal line on the screen at the height of the center of the headlights of the car. Draw the second line 75 centimeters lower. Sequentially, first for the left headlight (the right one is disabled or closed), and then for the right one (the left one does not shine), adjust the light beam. The location of the adjusting screws is described in the vehicle's operating instructions.
Step 2
During the operation of the car, the headlights are constantly exposed to impacts of small stones and sand, as a result of which they appear scratches and chips. Then dirt gets into these defects, which cannot be washed out. The glass "becomes cloudy", the brightness of the light decreases. In order to regain its former transparency, it must be replaced or polished. You can do this at home on your own, or in a car service. The first way is preferable if the diffuser is made of plexiglass. It is better to entrust the polishing of a glass lantern to professionals, since without a special tool and polishing material it is a long and laborious process, and the result may turn out to be unsatisfactory.
Step 3
Wash the headlamp thoroughly. Before polishing, remove or mask off the radiator grille, bumper and bonnet around the headlight. Even if you work very carefully, there is a high risk of scratching the body parts. You can remove the headlights and work with them separately, but in this case, you need to fix them securely. Grind the headlight sequentially with grinding wheels of 600, 1000, 2000, 4000 grit. Moisten them with water before processing. Each step should take two to three minutes. Do not overheat the glass surface. A significant increase in temperature will lead to its irreversible cloudiness. Next, rinse the headlight with water, apply polish for finishing and rub it in a circular motion until a mirror-like shine is achieved. This should take no more than 15 minutes. As a result, the surface of the headlamp will be restored to its factory condition, and the brightness of the light will increase by 40% or more.
Step 4
Install additional headlights. According to the requirements of GOST 8769-75, they must be installed no higher than the main ones, but at a distance of at least 250 mm from the roadbed. The adjustment of additional headlights is carried out in the same way as for the main ones. Before purchasing, make sure that the generator has enough power to handle the additional load continuously.
