To facilitate the process of starting a diesel engine in cold weather, it is necessary to carry out a set of measures on the car that prepare the diesel for winter operation and allow it to start at low temperatures.
It is necessary
winter diesel fuel and / or additives to it, low viscosity oil
Instructions
Step 1
Before starting winter operation, check the density of the battery electrolyte and bring it to the winter standard. If the battery generates a starting current of 320 A or less, replace it with a more powerful one (for this indicator). Clean any oxidation from the battery and starter terminals and protect them with a layer of grease.
Step 2
Drain sludge from both the fuel tank and filter. You can remove the strainer from the fuel intake in the tank. At a service station, check the compression (especially if the diesel is old), adjust the injection advance angle.
Step 3
Use winter diesel fuel. If it is absent or doubts about its quality, use anti-helium additives or kerosene (8-9 parts of diesel fuel for 1-2 parts of kerosene). This will not affect the operation of the engine and its resource. Instead of kerosene, gasoline can be used, but it will already have a negative effect on diesel.
Step 4
Use a reduced SAE10W-30 viscosity oil. Flammable compounds in aerosol cans for starting a diesel engine are dangerous.
Step 5
Remove and take the battery home overnight. Add 200 g of unleaded petrol to the oil sump before shutting off the diesel engine. It will allow the oil to briefly reduce its viscosity, and, after warming up, evaporate through the ventilation system.
Step 6
Do not start the diesel from the tug. Light diesel engines have a timing belt drive, and when towing, the belt can jump a few teeth or break.
Step 7
Operate the glow plugs and fuel filter heater twice just prior to starting if operating at low temperatures. Warm up the oil in the crankcase additionally, for example with a blowtorch.
Step 8
Regularly (every month or every 3000 km) monitor the sump and drain its contents. Use depressant additives for diesel fuel, which reduce the waxing temperature of diesel fuel and remove water from it.
Step 9
Additionally, install a pre-heater together with a timer (if it was not done by the manufacturer). By a predetermined time, the device will automatically warm up the engine and the car interior.
