Sometimes even experienced drivers cannot clearly distinguish between the concepts of "overtaking" and "anticipating", and even beginners - even more so. This often leads in practice to unexpected meetings with road inspectors, as well as emergency situations. Given the fact that the car is not without reason recognized as a source of increased danger, the driver always needs to be clearly aware of what he is doing when making a maneuver - ahead or overtaking.
What do the concepts of "anticipation" and "overtaking" mean?
So, first of all, it is worth finding out what these concepts mean. Lead is the movement of a vehicle at a speed that exceeds the passing vehicle. Such a maneuver is carried out within its own lane.
Overtaking is an advance of one / several vehicles with an exit into the oncoming lane and the indispensable subsequent return to the original lane or the side of the carriageway. I must say that overtaking is not always a traffic violation. If the road markings allow and there are no prohibition signs, such a maneuver will be performed according to the rules.
What is the Difference Between Overtaking and Leading
What is the difference between overtaking and advancing? From the point of view of traffic rules, these are fundamentally different terms. First of all, it should be said that, due to its peculiarities, overtaking is the most dangerous of the maneuvers. In all cases, it is associated not only with the advance of passing vehicles, but also with maneuvering to the left side with an exit to the “oncoming lane” or an adjacent lane, with the obligatory subsequent return to the original lane. It is necessary to be especially attentive to overtaking - Traffic rules provide for a large number of cases when it is prohibited.
Leading - a maneuver that is performed within its own side of the carriageway, and at a speed exceeding the speed of the passing vehicle. When making an advance, it is not provided for leaving the oncoming lane and indispensable return to the previously occupied one.
The main difference between outstripping and overtaking is that the first is possible both on the right and on the left. In addition, overtaking as a maneuver is strictly limited by traffic rules and is prohibited in most situations. This prohibition practically does not apply to advancing - it can be done in any situation, except in cases of heavy traffic, in which all lanes are occupied by vehicles.
What will be the wrong overtaking
It should be noted right away that the Administrative Code does not provide for direct penalties for incorrect overtaking. Meanwhile, one should not forget that overtaking may be accompanied by a drive into the oncoming lane. In this case, Article 12.15, Part 4, may be applied to punish the motorist. For example, an administrative fine and deprivation of rights for a period of 4 to 6 months may be imposed for driving into the oncoming lane or tram tracks when overtaking.
