The contactless ignition system of VAZ cars consists of a Hall sensor, a switch, a coil and a distributor (distributor). Therefore, when diagnosing the ignition system, all its components are checked one by one for operability. The Hall sensor itself can be tested in several ways.

Instructions

Step 1

Check the performance of the Hall sensor using the AZ-1 and MD-1 devices in the following way. Connect the MD-1 device instead of the switch, turn on the ignition, but do not start the motor itself. The switched on state of the LED P will signal the health of the lock and the ignition relay. The burning of the LED K indicates the serviceability of the ignition coil. Switch on the starter. If LED D flashes, it means that the Hall sensor is working properly. If LED D does not blink, connect the AZ-1 device instead of the Hall sensor. The device will replace the failed sensor and will allow you to continue driving at speeds up to 90 km / h. An indicator that lights up on it indicates that the device is ready for operation. An off indicator indicates a wiring fault.

Step 2

Check that the Hall sensor is working properly with a voltmeter and a 2 kΩ resistor. To do this, remove the ignition distributor and connect a voltmeter and resistance to it as shown in Fig. Connect the power supply, with a voltage of 10-12 V. In order for the voltmeter to give correct readings, its measurement limit must be at least 15 V, and the internal resistance must be at least 100 kOhm. Begin to slowly turn the distributor shaft. Voltmeter readings should change sharply from minimum to maximum. In this case, the minimum voltage should be no more than 0.4 V, and the maximum differ from the supply voltage by more than 3 V

Step 3

In the absence of any instruments and in road conditions, check the performance of the Hall sensor in a primitive way using a spark plug. Unscrew one of the spark plugs and place it on the engine. Turn on the ignition and check the power supply to both contacts of the ignition coil. Then remove the central wire from the distributor cover and push it between the brake cylinder tubes so that the bare contact is at a distance of 5-10 mm from the cylinder body. Using a piece of wire, connect the central contact of the distributor and the negative terminal of the battery. If at the same time a spark occurs between the brake cylinder body and the wire routed to it, the Hall sensor is faulty. Carry out all checks with the ignition on.

Step 4

Check the new Hall sensor during installation as follows. Insert it into the connector, turn on the ignition and pass the metal plate through its slot. If a spark passes between the wire and the plate, the sensor is good.
