In modern cars, among the mass of other parts, there is an important element - an ignition distributor sensor, otherwise called a Hall sensor. This sensor is responsible for distributing voltage pulses to the switch and spark plugs of your car, so the motorist will benefit from the skills to check the Hall sensor for correct functioning, and also, if necessary, replace it with a new serviceable sensor.
Instructions
Step 1
Connect a voltmeter to the Hall sensor output and check what readings are displayed on the voltmeter. If the sensor is working properly, the voltmeter needle shows a value from 0.4 V to the figure that differs from the voltage by no more than 3 V. If the arrow is below 0.4 V, this means that the sensor is defective, and it is needed replace.
Step 2
Replacing a sensor that you are not sure of with a sensor that is definitely working is another way to test the functionality of the Hall sensor.
Step 3
You can also use a simulated sensor to test its operation. It is not difficult to make a simulator - for this you need a three-pin block from the ignition distributor. You will also need a piece of wire.
Step 4
Switch on the ignition and connect the ends of the wire to the switch outputs numbered 3 and 6. See if the connection sparks. If a spark appears, this indicates a sensor malfunction; if there is no spark, then the Hall sensor is in order.
Step 5
To replace the faulty sensor with a correctly functioning device, remove the ignition distributor (distributor) cover and turn the crankshaft. The mark on the crankshaft must line up with the middle mark on the timing cover.
Step 6
Remember the position of the valve indicator. After that, unscrew the distributor with a wrench and hammer out the steel tube that fixes the slinger sleeve. Remove the tube from the mechanism and remove the coupling.
Step 7
Pull the shaft out of the distributor. Locate the Hall sensor terminals and disconnect them. Remove the sensor, pull the regulator and pull it out, then install a new one, repeating all the above steps in reverse order.
