A fan that allows additional air flow to cool a running engine is installed in almost all cars. A special sensor is responsible for the functioning of this fan, which turns on when the coolant reaches a certain temperature. This sensor is a consumable item and needs to be replaced periodically.
It is necessary
- - screwdrivers;
- - new sensor;
- - set of wrenches;
- - tank for coolant;
- - cotton gloves.
Instructions
Step 1
Drive the car into the garage and turn off the engine. Let the vehicle cool down. It is best to replace it in the morning with a cold engine. Never try to replace the sensor of a vehicle that has just been muted! You risk getting burned from heated parts. Also, during engine operation, the coolant reaches its maximum temperatures.
Step 2
Find the location of the fan switch sensor in your car. To do this, carefully study the manual for your car. It should indicate the exact location of the sensor, as well as instructions for replacing it.
Step 3
If there are no instructions, then visit the forum of the owners of your car model. Surely someone has already changed the sensor and shared their impressions of this procedure.
Step 4
Drain the coolant from the system. To do this, unscrew the cap on the radiator. On some models, you need to remove the battery to gain easy access to the drain neck. Do not drain the coolant onto the ground! It is very poisonous, so it can cause irreparable harm to the environment. Try not to inhale vapors when draining.
Step 5
Disconnect the wire connectors from the sensor. Do not pull on the wire, otherwise you risk damaging it. Only grasp the pad body.
Step 6
Unscrew the sensor with the correct size wrench. Usually a key for "30" is needed. Remove the sensor from the connector. Look carefully at its surface.
Step 7
Check if the sensor is working properly. There are two options for this. The first is to measure the resistance level at a certain temperature, but this is quite difficult. Therefore, you can simply connect a battery and a light bulb to the sensor in a series circuit. Dip the bottom of the sensor into a pot of hot water. If the light comes on, the sensor is good. If not, you need to install a new one.
