The sensor for turning on the fan on the car's radiator is needed to turn on its starting relay at a strictly defined time - when the coolant temperature reaches a specific level. In case of breakdown, the device must be replaced.

Necessary

  • - wrench;
  • - screwdriver;
  • - copper plate

Instructions

Step 1

To change the fan sensor, first check it for operability. To do this, turn on the ignition of the car, and then disconnect the wires supplying it from this sensor and connect them to each other. If, after performing these manipulations, the fan stops working - the cause of the breakdown lies in it, but if it works again, then the cause of the breakdown lies in the sensor, which must be replaced.

Step 2

Pour out the coolant from the radiator by opening the drain plug in the lower tank, disconnect the power wires connected to the fan sensor from the fan sensor.

Step 3

Using a wrench, unscrew and unscrew the sensor from the radiator housing. In the event that it is very old so that its edges do not scroll, it will be easier to use a spanner key.

Step 4

Next, install the new device in exactly the reverse order, and in order to ensure better tightness, put a copper O-ring between the fan sensor and the radiator.

Step 5

Before installing a new device, it is advisable to check it for suitability. Connect an ohmmeter to the output contacts of the device, immerse it in a bowl of water and heat it up. Use a household thermometer to measure the water temperature at which the sensor turns on - i.e. the contacts will close, which will be confirmed by the readings of the ohmmeter. For a working device, the contacts will close at a water temperature in the range of 90-95 ° C, and they will open at a temperature of 82 to 87 ° C.
