Step 1
First, make sure the power steering kit you purchased has all the parts. It consists of a pump, a special steering gear, a pulley, a hydraulic cylinder, an expansion tank, as well as high pressure hoses.
Step 2
Next, you should go directly to the installation of the hydraulic power steering itself. First, install the pump mounting bracket to the cylinder head. After that, securely fasten the pump itself to it. Then you need to replace the crankshaft pulley that will drive the pump. In this case, it must be taken into account that the drive must necessarily go through the belt, and not through the chain.
Step 3
The next step in the installation is to replace the steering gear. Given the design of the vehicle and the increased size of the new gearbox, you will need to modify the location where it will be installed. To do this, you need to cut a hole in the bulkhead and modify the bipod. Then select a location for the expansion tank so that it does not interfere with other parts of the engine. Install the hydraulic cylinder according to the instructions provided in the power steering kit, since each manufacturer of the hydraulic power steering has its own installation features.
Step 4
Next, connect the assembled system with high pressure hoses and secure them securely. Do this so that the hoses do not rub against other parts under the hood by securing them securely with clamps. Then, when you are sure that everything is in place and the hoses are firmly attached, pour special oil for hydraulic power steering into the expansion tank.
Step 5
At the last stage, you should pump the system. To do this, turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and left, while, if necessary, topping up the oil in the expansion tank. As soon as the liquid stops leaving, refill the oil level to the top mark of the reservoir and enjoy easy driving.
