Unstable operation of the engine (motor "troit") drastically reduces its power and increases fuel consumption. All that can be done in such a situation is to take the time to get to the garage and start figuring out the reasons for the "incorrect" operation of the car.

The reason for the "tripping" of the engine is the inoperability of one of the cylinders. To find out the causes of the malfunction, you can first carry out an independent diagnosis. Sometimes it is possible to find the cause and eliminate it within just a few minutes. But there is also another situation when, in order to restore the normal operation of the engine, its overhaul is necessary. Why isn't the cylinder working?

Bad spark plugs, faulty ignition system

First you need to identify the inoperative cylinder. To do this, start up the engine, set it to the lowest possible speed. Next, remove the high-voltage wire from each candle one by one. If, when it is removed, no noticeable changes occur in the engine's operation, then this cylinder can be considered inoperative. Unscrew the candle from it and inspect it: the presence of cracks, melting, chips is not allowed. It is best to install a new set of spark plugs in all cylinders. If such a replacement did not work, then you will have to move on to the next step - checking the ignition system.

One of the causes of the malfunction may be a broken wire. If it does not work, then the voltage does not reach the candle. To make sure that the wire is in good working order, disconnect it from the spark plug with the engine running (use rubber gloves - high voltage!) And move it to a distance of 4-6 mm. The presence of a spark indicates a working ignition system. If there is no spark, then try replacing the wire with a good one. When the spark does not appear in this case, check the ignition module or the distributor cover (if the car is equipped with a carburetor).

Low compression, no fuel

In other words, it is insufficient cylinder pressure. To find out if this is so, you will need an assistant and a compression meter. To take measurements, disconnect the high-voltage wire from the ignition coil, remove the spark plug. Insert the device into the vacant hole and ask the assistant to turn the starter with the ignition key for a few seconds. Track the maximum reading of the device. Carry out this operation with all cylinders. A pressure of 10-14 bar is considered normal. Minimum 8-10.

Another reason why the cylinder does not function is the lack of a fuel-air mixture in it. This can happen due to improperly adjusted valve clearance or faulty injectors. In the latter case, it is advisable to contact the technical service, because repair work, nozzle adjustment require special equipment.
