Determine the SAE viscosity grade for engine oil based on average temperatures in your area. Thus, you will avoid problems with starting the car in low temperatures and increased engine wear. Oils of class 0W retain their fluidity best in the winter season, pump faster through the lubrication system and provide engine protection. At high temperatures, the viscosity of the oil must be sufficient to cool the friction pairs and form an oil film. These qualities are fully possessed by oils of class 40 according to SAE. Multigrade oils have a double designation, e.g. SAE 10W-40.

Consider the oil economy. Oils of categories EC I and EC II, compared to the reference oil, save fuel by at least 1.3%, and the use of oil of category EC III will save about 3% of fuel. Remember that expensive engine oils are more detergent. Therefore, having bought a used car, fill it with the simplest oil in order to gradually remove all carbon deposits from the engine. If expensive oil immediately gets into a dirty engine, carbon deposits will fall off in whole layers.

Do not use synthetic oil if there are significant deposits and rubber elements on the internal surfaces of the engine that have lost their elasticity and have microcracks. The use of this type of oil is not recommended in rotary piston engines and engines that have undergone major overhaul. Break-in the engine with good quality mineral oil. In all other cases, give preference to a synthetic oil that provides maximum service life and guarantees engine protection.
