Back in 1992, the Israeli company Mul-T-Lock began supplying anti-theft mechanical locks for cars to the Russian market. Today, the company's products are produced jointly with the Czech company Construct and bear a double name. This merger had a positive effect on the quality of the locks and their popularity only increased.

Heavy artillery protecting the vehicle

Mechanical anti-theft systems, firstly, should not be confused with alarms. When installing locks, there is no interference with the electronic system of the car. However, the security properties of locks are often even better than electronic systems. Secondly, mechanical locks are installed on the gearbox, steering column or hood. They can only be opened with a special key.

For each make and model of the car, its own type of lock is produced, which eliminates almost any possibility of unauthorized opening or drilling of the lock cylinder. To make a duplicate key (in case of its loss) is possible only in the service center of the Mul-T-Lock or Construct company with all documents and a special card with a code. By the way, the presence of such a card in the kit of the lock indicates its legal origin and fully protects against counterfeiting.

Three iron heroes

The most popular mechanical lock is the gearbox protection. The action of the anti-theft lock on the "mechanics" is slightly less useful than on the automatic transmission. After all, when the lock is closed, the position of the gearshift lever is at reverse speed. This means that, if desired, the car can be evacuated. When installing the lock on the automatic transmission, the lever is in the Parking position when closing, which makes the car completely immobilized. Nowadays, mainly pinless gearbox locks are used, when the pin itself is inside the box and you do not need to get it out when opening / closing it. The larva of the castle is very small and does not spoil the appearance of the cabin.

The second most popular mechanical lock Mul-T-Lock is the steering column lock (according to its principle, the domestic lock "Garant" is made). The lock does not make it possible to turn the steering wheel, while it does not matter at all in what position the steering column itself is. A lock is installed under the console of the car, while the position of the stopper completely excludes access to the connecting screws. A small disadvantage of the steering lock can be considered limited access to it - even the owner of the car does not always manage to close the lock the first time, because this has to be done blindly. But the anti-theft effect is almost one hundred percent.

Mechanical bonnet locks are effective against unauthorized access if the car has an alarm. Usually, hijackers open the hood first to hit or disable the siren. Then the thieves open the car itself. The lock on the hood does not allow you to do this, because you can open it only from the inside of the car, and even look for the installation location. The days when the larva was installed only in the glove compartment are long gone.

The bigger, the better

Mechanical locks have maximum efficiency when combined with car alarms. The more various anti-theft systems will be installed on the car, the more chances that such a "fancy" car will scare off car thieves. When choosing and purchasing Mul-T-Lock anti-theft locks, give preference to official suppliers and authorized service centers.

If you are buying a new car from a major dealership, do not refuse an offer to supply additional equipment. It employs certified specialists who have undergone special training in the installation of mechanical anti-theft locks. This, by the way, is one of the conditions of cooperation between Mul-T-Lock (Construct) companies.
