Two types of materials are used for painting car rims: powder and acrylic paints. The application of the first requires the conditions of a car workshop, while the second type is quite affordable for a home craftsman.
The elements of changing the appearance of the car or restyling can be safely attributed to painting the rims. Sometimes it is produced for a specific practical purpose, for example, to hide the effects of straightening, and sometimes just following fashion trends. Today there are two main methods of painting. The first involves the use of powder, and the second - acrylic paints.
Powder paints. Application features
The technology for applying powder paint is quite complicated and it is carried out exclusively in a specialized auto repair shop. Its essence lies in the fact that a powdery coloring component is applied to the surface of the disc with the help of certain equipment. Then the disc is placed in a furnace, where at a temperature of about 200 ° C the powder melts and evenly covers the entire surface of the rim. Next, the already painted part is treated with a layer of protective varnish.
Such a coating is characterized by increased resistance to various kinds of external influences. The disadvantages of this kind of painting include its very high cost.
Painting with acrylic paints. Subtleties of the process
If a car enthusiast has set himself the goal of painting the rims of his car on his own, then this can be done using the technology of applying acrylic paints.
The advantages of this method include:
1. A very wide choice of paint colors.
2. Acceptable financial costs for the entire process (10-15 thousand rubles per set).
3. There is no need for complex technologies.
In order to carry out such a painting, you should first of all take care of a drying room. Using a hair dryer, radiator or even direct sunlight is not allowed as the paint will not dry evenly. A well-ventilated room with an air temperature of 12-17 C.
You will need certain consumables: thinner, sandpaper, abrasives for polishing, primer, masking tape. It is advisable to have a drill with a polishing attachment on hand. Please note that the clear varnish that you will apply to each paint coat must be from the same manufacturer as the paint you choose.
The process of application itself is not very difficult, but it requires accuracy, thoroughness and patience. Clean the disc from traces of corrosion, dirt, sand down small scratches. After degreasing the surface, apply a coat of primer twice, each time carefully smoothing the surface with fine sandpaper. It is better to paint the disc with a spray gun. This is also done in several layers. Each layer is varnished. After 5-7 days of drying, the surface can be treated with special abrasives.
Thus, you can paint not only the entire disc, but also its individual parts. In this case, ordinary masking tape will help you, with which those areas are glued to which the paint should not get.
