Correct adjustment of the alternator belt tension determines the service life of the battery, alternator and water pump bearings, as well as the alternator belt itself. A weakened belt begins to slip on the pulleys, which entails its intense wear, and the generator in such conditions is not able to generate enough energy to fully recharge the battery. Excessive belt tension creates an increased load on the bearings of the generator and water pump, which contributes to their accelerated wear and tear. In addition, with such a tension, the cords begin to break in the belt itself and it can break at any time, having served a very short time.

Instructions
Step 1
To check that the drive belt is correctly tensioned, place any flat, metal object, such as a narrow pry bar, over the alternator and water pump pulleys. Then you need to press your hand on top of the center of the belt, then measure its deflection with a ruler, which, with an effort of 3-4 kg, should not bend more than one centimeter. If the control measurement does not correspond to the norm, then it is necessary to adjust the tension of the alternator drive belt.
Step 2
To eliminate the problem, the generator mounting nut on the tension bar is loosened, as well as the bolt of its lower attachment to the engine bracket.
Step 3
Then, using a mount, the generator is moved away from the engine, and in this position it is fixed by tightening the nut on the tension bar. After that, the degree of tension of the drive belt is checked.
Step 4
If the tension is within specification, then the upper and lower generator mounts on the engine are finally tightened.
Step 5
In cases where the tension of the drive belt could not be performed correctly immediately, then the whole process must be repeated without fail.
