Instructions

Step 1

Check the value and quality of the transition resistances on the connecting blocks, terminals and contacts of the main body of the vehicle. At this moment, the engine must be turned off, and the battery must be disconnected. Do this with an automotive ampere meter or multimeter and turn it on in low resistance mode. Set the resistance value to no higher than 0.3 Ohm.

Step 2

Inspect each of the wire connections to the vehicle's alternator, chassis, starter motor, regulator relay, fuse box, and battery. Clean all contacts and terminals of oxides and dirt, check the tightness of the nut or bolt fasteners on the terminals of the starter and generator. Remove and inspect the brush assembly. Replace the generator brushes if necessary. Carefully check that the ground tire is secured between the crankcase and the chassis of the vehicle at the correct level.

Step 3

Inspect the drive belt and its tension, replacing if it sags to the very bottom of the pulley groove. Determine how well the belt is tensioned by pressing down the center of the longest transmission section with a force of up to 5 kg. The deviation should not exceed 12-15 mm.

Step 4

Connect the tachometer to the ignition system. Set up a multimeter or automotive amperemeter to operate up to 20 volts and connect it to the power terminal on the generator. Start the engine, setting its speed to 2500–3000 rpm. Make sure the generator terminal voltage does not exceed 14.2 Volts. Flip the high beam toggle switch. Make sure that the voltage at the generator terminal does not drop below 13 volts. If you have not been able to independently increase the power of the generator, then this means that it is necessary to completely replace it.
