One of the significant parameters of a car's fuel system is pressure. This characteristic determines the dynamic properties and economy of the vehicle. If there are certain signs, it is necessary to carry out the appropriate diagnostics of the fuel system, and if necessary, replace the fuel filter and pump.
Necessary
- - pressure gauge;
- - adapter device;
- - high pressure hose.
Instructions
Step 1
Understand for yourself that there is a difference between the pressure in the fuel system and the pressure of the fuel pump. Normal pressure in the fuel system is 2, 1-2, 8 kg / sq. see. In some car brands, the values may differ from the specified parameters in the direction of increase. But the pressure of the fuel pump is significantly higher and is 4.0-6.0 kg / sq. cm.
Step 2
Use a pressure gauge to measure the fuel pump pressure by connecting it downstream of the fuel filter. Connect through an adapter. On the opposite side of the adapter, attach a high-pressure gas-resistant hose, securing it with a clamp.
Step 3
For some car brands that use threaded connections rather than clamps, use an appropriately sized hollow bolt to act as an adapter. Screw a bolt into the fuel filter and connect a pressure gauge to it. In some cases it will be necessary to connect the pressure gauge to the cold start nozzle and not to the filter.
Step 4
Check the pressure in the fuel system if it is difficult to start the engine on the first try. Such a "symptom" may indicate a deterioration in the shut-off properties of a control valve or pump check valve.
Step 5
Check the pressure change in the fuel system over time. Install the pressure gauge, start the engine, then turn it off and take the readings after an hour, two hours, and after the engine has completely cooled down. If you see that the pressure in the fuel system has increased, and after reaching a value of about 2 kg / sq. cm leveled out idle speed, it can be assumed that the nozzles have lost tightness.
