Instructions

Step 1

If the vehicle is in a garage, roll it out onto the street. Make adjustments in the afternoon, when there is no direct sunlight, but at the same time it is not dark outside.

Step 2

Stop the engine if it was started before. Inspect the stroboscope for mechanical damage to the case, since a high-voltage converter is located inside it, and touching its circuits with your hands can result in severe electrical injury. Using the clamps, connect the device to the battery, observing the polarity. Usually, the black wire or clamp is negative, and the red one is positive, but there are exceptions, so it will be useful to look into the instructions for the stroboscope. Do not short circuit the battery.

Step 3

Secure the signal cable to the high-voltage wire going to the spark plug of the first cylinder. The connection of the stroboscope with this wire will be capacitive, and whenever a high-voltage pulse passes through this wire, the pickup will be transmitted to the control electrode of the flash lamp built into the device. Since the capacitance of the storage capacitor in a stroboscope is less than in a photographic flash, the intensity of the light pulse is also lower, but the recharge time of this capacitor is shortened, and the lamp life is also increased.

Step 4

Arrange all wires in such a way that they cannot under any circumstances get into moving parts. Examine the engine flywheel and pulleys - you will find a white streak on one of them. Having found it, inspect the engine itself - a second, stationary stroke should be located next to its body. If you have watches and chains, remove them. Be sure to engage in neutral.

Step 5

Loosen the fasteners holding the distributor housing from turning. Put on rubber gloves. Now, with your hands away from moving parts and making sure no items of clothing can get caught in them, start the engine. Let it warm up at idle.

Step 6

Without changing the rpm, direct the stroboscope at the flywheel or the one of the pulleys on which the line is located. The light from it should also hit a stationary stroke on the motor housing. Hold the device so that you do not touch the signal cable - you can get an electric shock from it under unfavorable conditions even through the insulation. Remember that parts that appear stationary in the pulsed strobe light are actually rotating and can cause injury.

Step 7

Changing the ignition advance angle by careful rotation of the distributor housing, achieve alignment of the strokes with each other. Stop the engine, then turn off the device. Tighten the fasteners again. Do not short-circuit when removing clamps.
