If you bought a car in another region of the Russian Federation, then you will be obliged to change the "foreign" numbers for the numbers of your constituent entity of the Federation, provided that all other documents for the car are in order. And if you just need to replace the numbers that have become unusable, then you can contact the traffic police or immediately one of the firms that provide such services by agreement with the internal affairs bodies.
Instructions
Step 1
If you bought a car in another region, contact the traffic police to remove it from the register and get transit numbers. However, you will have to re-register the car (already in your region) no later than 5 days from the date of purchase, otherwise you will be fined.
Step 2
If you are moving for family or business reasons to another region, then you do not need to deregister the car at your previous place of residence. Upon arrival at the new place of registration, contact the traffic police, submit all documents for the car and a passport with a new registration. The traffic police should do the rest for you.
Step 3
If the license plates on your car have become unusable as a result of an accident, then you will first have to contact the insurance company in order for them to pay you insurance. Then you will have to repair the car and go through the inspection again. After that, employees of the insurance service can conclude an insurance contract with you again. And only then can you apply to the traffic police for permission to obtain a duplicate number.
Step 4
If the numbers on your car have become unusable over time, contact the traffic police with a statement to replace the numbers. Attach to the application a copy of the passport and registration certificate for the car. Get permission to get a duplicate number.
Step 5
If you live in Moscow, you will be directed to the ZNAK factory with new numbers, where you will present this permit along with a receipt for payment and within one or two days you will receive a new number. In other regions, you will have to wait longer, unless you contact one of the private firms engaged in the production of numbers by agreement with the ATC. Be sure to ask the manager of the company to show you a copy of such an agreement before filling out an application for a replacement number. If there is no such agreement, then it is better not to have any joint business with such a company in order to avoid further problems with the law.
