A cylinder head is a cover that protects the block from external negative influences. This part is made of aluminum alloy or alloyed cast iron. It is necessary to remove the cylinder head when the car engine is completely disassembled, in case of valve replacement or to remove carbon deposits that may form on the surface of the combustion chambers.

Necessary

  • - spanner key;
  • - open-end wrench.

Instructions

Step 1

Before removing the head, the vehicle must be installed on a lift, after which the wire must be disconnected from the negative terminal of the battery. Then raise the car and drain the coolant from the radiator. To do this, open the heater tap and unscrew the drain plugs from the radiator and cylinder block.

Step 2

Detach the front exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold and remove the coolant pump pipe bracket. Let the machine go and remove the air filter. To do this, it is enough to unscrew the crankcase ventilation hoses and cylinder head covers from the carburetor, as well as the hose whose task is to supply heated air from the air filter thermostat. Then close the process cover on the carburetor.

Step 3

Disconnect the wires from the ignition switch and spark plugs and from the carburetor. Also, do not forget to disconnect the wires from the coolant level gauge and the engine oil pressure warning light. After that, unscrew the vacuum hose from the sensor and carburetor and remove the sensor itself.

Step 4

Now you need to disconnect the hoses from the fuel pump and carburetor, and from the intake pipe, unscrew the econometric tube and the hose that goes to the brake booster. Next, disconnect the hoses from the branch pipe of the engine cooling jacket.

Step 5

After that, disconnect the cables for the drive of the air and throttle valves of the carburetor from the engine. In addition, you will need to remove the toothed belt cover and cylinder head.

Step 6

Place the gear shift lever in neutral. Then turn the crankshaft, moving strictly clockwise. This must be done until the mark on the flywheel is set opposite the middle mark of the scale.

Step 7

To remove the axle with the roller and the spacer ring, unscrew the nut of its fastening. Then disconnect the belt from the camshaft pulley and, keeping the pulley from rotating, carefully unscrew the mounting bolt, then you can easily remove it along with the key.

Step 8

Now you can unscrew the nut with which the toothed belt cover is attached to the cylinder head and remove it along with the gasket.
