Upgrading and redesigning the cylinder heads is a method to increase not only the efficiency, but also the power of the engine. Preparing the head for increased power on its own requires an impressive amount of manual work.

Necessary

  • - manual high-speed machine for processing and polishing with several scrapers and grinding heads;
  • - sandpaper / bar;
  • - BC heads.

Instructions

Step 1

Install valves that are the same width, the same angles, and are perfectly round to rework the inlet. Chamfer and remove sharp corners from the bottom of the intake valve.

Step 2

Work the inlet around the valve guide so that any obstructions to the flow of the air / fuel mixture are reduced in width and height.

Step 3

Locate the specific protrusion in the area of the inlet valve seat just below the seat itself. This area must be carefully treated.

Step 4

Cut the hole of the inlet valve so that it is not the usual rectangular shape, but a trapezoidal one. In this case, do not remove metal from the lower part of the channel.

Step 5

In addition to the above, roughly sand the entire inlet surface with 100 grit sandpaper or a bar.

Step 6

To improve engine performance, buy and install cylinder heads for racing car engines, and you can also supply camshafts with increased valve lift. When stopping your choice on the camshaft, take into account the fact that only 12.7 millimeters of valve lift with bronze guides for their bushings are needed to boost the engine.

Step 7

If the valves are lifted by 14 mm, it is imperative to resort to the use of roller rockers (rockets), which increase the service life of the guide bushings and the valve stem. Engines for off-road and ring competitions use camshafts with a valve lift of up to 16.5 millimeters, while on dragsters the height reaches 21.6 mm.

Step 8

Now remove the cylinder head, and then apply a layer of plasticine to the piston head. Install the cylinder head, tighten the mount, then install, then adjust the rods and rocker arms.

Step 9

After that, you need to turn the crankshaft a full two turns. It's time to remove the cylinder head in order to measure the thickness of the plasticine in the thinnest place. Remember, it must be at least 2 millimeters in the place of the inlet valve, and in the outlet area - at least two and a half millimeters. Therefore, it is necessary to check each cylinder.

Step 10

To upgrade combustion chambers, polish their surfaces.

Step 11

Then measure their volumes in order to align the chambers during their processing in all cylinders. There is no need to measure the shape of the chamber until you are sure that you have studied the effect of the changes in the cylinder head on the propagation of flame in the engine cylinders.
