A modern car, in addition to ABS, is equipped with ESP, ETS and others. Moreover, a malfunction of the ABS sensor entails the incorrect operation of many other systems using information from it.

Necessary

  • - tester;
  • - repair PINs;
  • - soldering iron;
  • - shrink tape.

Instructions

Step 1

A malfunction of the ABS should be signaled by the corresponding indicators on the instrument panel. To find out which sensor has failed, the easiest way is a car service. If you are not looking for easy ways and prefer to solve problems yourself, get a good tester.

Step 2

In addition, you will need special repair PINs. Their cost from official dealers is low even for Mercedes. They will allow you to professionally ring the sensors without the use of pins and needles, loosening the connectors and breaking the contact. The pins have two lugs and a wire.

Step 3

Hang the wheels of the car on a lift, remove the housings from the control units and the connectors from the controllers. In this case, proceed according to the instructions for repairing your car, which may have design features and maintenance nuances that must be observed.

Step 4

After connecting the pins to the sensors and the tester, measure the resistance at the contacts. Its approximate value should be about 1 kΩ. Find out the exact value in the same workshop manual. Also check for a short to ground.

Step 5

Next, ask your assistant to spin the wheel by hand. In this case, the resistance should change. Using this method, check the ABS sensors on all wheels. If you find an open or short circuit, remove the wheel, disconnect the sensor connectors and ring the sensor and wiring.

Step 6

Once the sensor or wiring is faulty, replace the sensor or repair the wiring defect accordingly. For connections, use only soldering, insulate the joints with heat shrink tape.

Step 7

Remember that the ABS sensors have polarity and the wires should be connected to them accordingly. For this purpose, the color of the wires is indicated in the repair manual, and they are marked on the connector. Make the connection according to the color of the wires and the applied markings.
