Replacing the windshield on a VAZ car is not as difficult a task as it might seem at first glance. All work can be done independently, if you take into account some of the nuances and follow the technology.
Replacing windshields on cars of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant is associated with knowledge of some features of dismantling and installation. The thing is that on the "classic" the windshield is installed without glue, and on cars 2110 and similar models - with the help of a special adhesive composition.
Replacing glass on the "classic"
In advance, in addition to the windshield, purchase a seal and a spacer wedge (stylized edging that runs along the entire perimeter). In the passenger compartment, remove the plastic pillars on the A-pillars using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the ceiling trim in the same way. Next, take a wide flat screwdriver and, inserting it into the edge of the seal (inside the passenger compartment), press so that the edge of the seal is squeezed out of the flange. You need to start from the top corner. There is another method - you can try to squeeze the glass from the inside with the soft inner part of your hand, using gentle blows, - you also need to start from any upper corner. The glass should be squeezed out together with the seal.
The next step is to clean the glass seat from dirt and debris. If necessary, in this place you can touch up the metal or prime it. Place the new glass on a clean mat and put on the gasket. Tuck the edging (spacer wedge) into the appropriate place on the seal and insert the special lock. Next, a thin and durable cord must be inserted into the outer cut of the sealing gum; after pulling it around the perimeter of the seal, overlap the two outer ends in a criss-cross pattern in the middle and on top of the windshield. Now the assistant sits down in the salon and slowly pulls out the cord; at the same time, the second person lightly hits the glass from the outside with his palm at the point of pulling out the cord. In conclusion, it remains to correct the seal by pressing on it with your hand so that it sits deeper on the flange.
Replacing glass with a VAZ2110
On a car of this series, the windshield is glued in, so it is necessary to purchase a special string for dismantling, through which it will be possible to cut out the old glass. First remove the seal, then pierce the glue layer with a sharp tool, insert a string into the hole and attach a suitable handle to it for ease of use. Together with an assistant (one person inside the car, the other outside) saw the old glass and pull it out piece by piece.
Before installing a new glass, clean the places of its contact with the body and degrease it with solvent. If there are gripping handles (suction cups), then apply the glue to the edge of the glass, if not, then to the seat on the car body. Use only special glue! After installing the glass, so that it does not slip, glue the tape on top, and install the retaining cones from below. Refrain from operating the car during the day.
