If you want to adjust the speed of your car, then you do not need to contact a service center for help. If you have a carbureted engine, you can easily cope with this task on your own and with just an ordinary flat screwdriver.

How to adjust RPM

Necessary

  • - small flat screwdriver
  • - instruction manual for your car

Instructions

Step 1

Start the car and warm it up to operating temperature. It is worth adjusting the speed only after making sure that the temperature sensor shows the optimal degree.

Step 2

Stop the vehicle engine and remove the air filter, which is usually located directly above the carburetor. Just unscrew the bolts of the fasteners by hand and lift the part: it should be easy to remove. If pipes or hoses are attached to your model of the air filter box, use a screwdriver to loosen the screws on the clamps and remove them.

Step 3

Locate the speed control screws. They are most often located in the front lower part of the carburetor. The smaller screw is responsible for the air-fuel mixture, and the larger screw is actually responsible for the idle speed. With their help, we will regulate everything.

Step 4

Proceed with the adjustment. Remember: if you turn the screws clockwise, the engine speed will drop, if counterclockwise, it will increase.

If you did not find the instruction manual for your car and do not know what engine speed indicators should be at idle, then follow these steps:

- turn both screws clockwise with a flat screwdriver until they stop (do not overdo it);

- now turn both screws clockwise two and a half turns and start the engine;

- listen to the engine: if the engine runs unevenly and dips are heard, continue to tighten the screws clockwise a little until the idle speed becomes even.

If you find the instruction manual or you just know the optimal indicators, then the task is simplified: you need to tighten the screws until the tachometer needle points to the desired value.

Step 5

Stop the engine. Let the car cool down (this may take several hours) and then start it up again to check your performance.
