In addition to the passport of a technical device (PTS), which is often lost by car owners, each car has another type of identification - VIN-code (Vehicle identification number), which contains a large amount of information. The VIN code is assigned by the manufacturer during the production process. The code data is widely used in the search for stolen vehicles, in determining the country of origin, equipment and other characteristics.
Instructions
Step 1
When buying a car, drivers with many years of experience must check the VIN code for possible "interruption". For the information of beginners, it is especially easy to interrupt 3 by 8 and 5 by 6. Symbols I, O, Q are not used, since they are very similar to 1 and 0. Locations of the VIN code of most modern cars are the front left body pillar, or the left side dashboard where the VIN code can be seen through the windshield. Usually its location is marked in the TCP.
Step 2
In accordance with the international classification, the VIN code consists of three parts - WMI, VDS, VIS. The first part is WMI, which is a three-digit code that identifies the manufacturer. The second part - VDS - already consists of six characters and contains descriptive information about the vehicle itself. Its content is determined by the direct producer. The number at the end is a control one for additional protection against possible "interruption". In Russia, Japan, Korea and in many European countries, the check digit is not used by manufacturers.
Step 3
The last part of the VIN code - VIS consists of eight characters, and the last four are necessarily numbers. This code contains additional information about the car, which includes, for example, the year of manufacture and the manufacturer.
Step 4
Now in more detail. The first symbol indicates the geographical area, the second - the state located in this area and the third symbol - the car manufacturer itself. When a batch of less than 500 vehicles is produced, the third symbol is always marked with a nine.
Information about the car model (body types, engine, equipment) is contained in the fourth and eighth characters. As already mentioned, the ninth character, the check digit, is found on American and Chinese cars. The tenth character usually characterizes the model year of the vehicle. It differs from the calendar year in that it can be ahead of it.
