One of the important maintenance procedures is changing the oil and oil filter. Failure to replace these materials will result in premature engine wear. It is recommended to change the engine oil and filter at the same time.
Necessary
- - fresh engine oil;
- - container for collecting used oil;
- - a new oil filter and an O-ring for the drain plug.
Instructions
Step 1
Use only recommended engine oil or oil with a quality higher than API SJ. Using engine oil with a higher or lower viscosity than recommended may cause engine damage. Carry out an oil change on a cold engine so that the oil glass is completely together with impurities. Place the car on an inspection pit, overpass or lift.
Step 2
Turn off the engine and wait a while for the engine oil to drain into the sump. Remove the oil filler cap. Place a container to collect the used oil under the neck and unscrew the plug. Press down on the plug when unscrewing so that the oil does not drain prematurely. After the oil is completely drained, remove the spilled oil, put a new O-ring on the plug and tighten to 30-40 Nm.
Step 3
To replace the oil filter, remove the air filter housing and resonator. Remove the heat shield by unscrewing its fastening bolts. Unscrew the screw securing the power steering pump cover and move the hose to the side. Unscrew the oil filter. This may require a special key. To install a new oil filter, lubricate the O-ring of the new filter with fresh engine oil. Screw in the new filter until it contacts the cylinder block, then turn it ¾ turn.
Step 4
Fill the engine with the correct grade of engine oil. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for oil leaks around the filter and drain plug on the engine sump. Until it disperses through the lubrication system, the oil pressure indicator lamp may light up.
Step 5
Stop the engine. Wait a few minutes. Check the oil level and top up as required. Check the tightness of the plug again.
