If the car needs a partial painting, it is not possible to pick a color by eye. For each manufacturer, the tones of the coloring agents differ, and sometimes quite strongly. The situation can be solved using the information encrypted in the VIN of the car.
Instructions
Step 1
The VIN is the 17-digit vehicle identification number. Each of its numbers carries certain information about the car. By VIN-code you can find out about the date and place of assembly, type of body and engine, model number, etc.
Step 2
Find a special information decal under the hood of your car (next to the engine). The chances of finding it increase if the car is modern enough and has not been overhauled.
Step 3
If you do not find an information decal under the hood, open the car door. Examine the bottom of the door pillar; many car manufacturers prefer this spot for an information label.
Step 4
Contact your car service painter, provide him with the found vin-code. Using a special computer program, entering your code, a car service worker will easily pick up exactly the shade that was originally used for painting the body. Consider the fact that over time the paint can fade and, perhaps, the tones will differ slightly from each other.
Step 5
Another way to determine the shade of paint by the vin code is to contact an authorized dealer, providing him with information about the make of the car and the corresponding code. After a while, employees of any car company will give you comprehensive information regarding your car and its color. You can contact the dealers in person by going to the office where the car was purchased, or by contacting the company employees by e-mail or phone. Having received the necessary data, feel free to go to the car service and ask that your vehicle be painted exactly in the tone specified by the manufacturer.
