Sooner or later, any car enthusiast is faced with the problem of clogging the fuel tank of his car. In this case, you can either buy a new fuel tank and simply replace it, or clean it yourself.
Instructions
Step 1
Drive the car onto an overpass or inspection pit. Secure the rear wheels of the car so that it does not move and disconnect the fuel sensor.
Step 2
Make sure there are no sources of fire or hot objects nearby. Use an iron brush to clean the joints of the fuel tank with the fuel pump and filter. Then wipe these surfaces with a damp cloth.
Step 3
If your tank has a fuel drain cap, unscrew it and drain the gasoline into a container. Then remove the hose and drain off the remaining fuel.
Step 4
Disconnect the fuel tank filler neck by removing the O-ring. Then climb into the trunk and unscrew the four nuts that secure the tank. Then unscrew the fuel sensor and remove the filter.
Step 5
Rinse the tank with drained gasoline. With each new drain, you will notice pieces of rust and other debris that have accumulated in the gasoline. Flush the tank thoroughly until you notice that gasoline flows out of the tank without debris and visible impurities.
Step 6
You can also rinse the tank with high quality running water. To do this, you will definitely need to remove the fuel tank, then rinse it with water from a hose under high pressure. These manipulations should also be carried out until there is no debris in the water flowing out of the tank.
Step 7
Dry the tank thoroughly. After rinsing, leave it to dry completely in a well-ventilated area or outdoors. In order to speed up drying and get rid of moisture residues, you can blow it out with a compressor.
Step 8
After flushing, treat your fuel tank with a quality rust converter and dry it thoroughly again until it is completely dry. This is necessary in order to permanently remove the rust adhered to the walls.
Step 9
After making sure that the tank is completely dry, install it back by first checking the fuel pump and fuel filter, as they can also be clogged during use.
