Cleaning the gas tank is necessary in order to get rid of rust and other harmful deposits that accumulate inside during the operation of the car.
Instructions
Step 1
Drive the vehicle into the inspection pit, or lift it up with jacks and then secure it to stands. Carefully remove the trim of the gas tank, which is located in the trunk. Disconnect the fuel gauge sensor. Remove all sources of ignition, very hot objects.
Step 2
Place a piece of cloth or cardboard under the car. Climb under it and remove the protection of the fuel pump and filter. After that, disconnect the fuel pump wire and insulate it. Start the car and wait until it stalls - this is necessary in order to relieve pressure.
Step 3
Brush the fuel filter connections, the hose connection to the fuel pump and gas tank. Wipe these surfaces with a damp cloth. After that, unscrew the fuel filter mount with a screwdriver, the clamp and remove the hose that goes from the gas tank to the gas pump. Substitute the canister immediately and drain off the gasoline, which may escape in large quantities.
Step 4
Reattach the hose and tighten the clamp carefully, then unscrew it at the connection to the gas tank using a wrench. Carefully wrap the end of the hose with plastic wrap. Remove the pipes that fit the gas tank on the left side. These are the ventilation pipes of the tank and the fuel return, while plugging the holes in all connections.
Step 5
Detach the O-ring from the filler neck, it is easily extruded. Climb into the trunk and unscrew the four nuts that secure the gas tank. Gently pull it towards you from above and below, then do the same on the right side. In this way, take the gas tank out. Unscrew the sensor and remove the filter.
Step 6
Pour about 3 liters of gasoline into the tank, first through the filter opening and then through the fuel level sensor. Shake it well inside, then pour it through the filler neck. Ensure that the drained liquid is free of sediment and has a natural color. Then reassemble in the reverse order.
