If you are wondering how to change the CV joint, then surely every time you drive your car you hear a characteristic crunch in the area of the front wheel, which stops when the car comes to a complete stop. Of course, you can find in some car dealerships a repair kit to restore the CV joint separator, but this is unlikely to help you in the long run. The fact is that the SHRUS is structurally made in such a way that it does not imply the possibility of recovery in the event of malfunctions in it.

It is necessary

  • - a container with a volume of at least 3.5 liters;
  • - spanner wrench or head on "17";
  • - standard wheel wrench or knob on "17", or key-cross on "17";
  • - jack;
  • - slotted screwdriver;
  • - beard;
  • - wheel chocks;
  • - head to "30";
  • - support posts;
  • - stretching;
  • - mounting blade;
  • - vice with soft metal jaws;
  • - pliers;
  • - rags;
  • - soft metal drift;
  • - SHRUS-4 grease (50-60 g).

Instructions

Step 1

Clean the transmission housing around the drain hole. Place a container with a volume of at least 3.5 liters under the drain hole. Unscrew the drain plug with a spanner wrench or head on "17" and drain the oil into a substituted container. Screw the plug back on.

Step 2

Loosen the fastening bolts of the wheel to be removed using a standard wheel wrench or a wrench with a "17" head, or a cross wrench at "17". Jack up the vehicle. Unscrew the wheel bolts and remove the wheel. Pry off with a slotted screwdriver, remove the protective cap of the hub. Install the wheel and tighten the two bolts to secure it. Lower the vehicle onto its wheels.

Step 3

Using a beard, straighten the dented shoulder of the hub bearing nut in two places. Apply the parking brake, engage first gear and place wheel chocks under the wheels. Use the “30” head to loosen the nut of the hub bearing. Hang up the front of the vehicle and place it on supports. Remove the wheel. Unscrew the hub bearing nut completely and remove the washer.

Step 4

Using a spanner wrench on "17", unscrew the two bolts securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction to the drive being removed (if you remove the right drive, turn the steering wheel to the extreme left position; if you remove the left drive, to the extreme right). Move the steering knuckle with the strut to the side and remove the shank of the outer CV joint housing from the hub. Secure the drive to a support or brace.

Step 5

Using a spudger, push the inner CV joint body out of the gearbox and remove the inner CV joint, taking care not to damage the drive oil seal.

Step 6

Clamp the shaft with a soft metal vise. Use a pair of pliers to squeeze the large clamp and pry the end of the clamp with a slotted screwdriver. Disconnect and remove the clamp. Disconnect the small clamp in the same way and remove it.

Step 7

Slide the boot off the outer CV joint housing and turn it inside out. Remove the grease from the end of the joint with a rag. By striking the end of the hinge yoke through a soft metal drift, knock the hinge off the drive. Pry the retaining ring with a screwdriver and remove it.

Step 8

Clean the drive shaft from old grease and apply a thin layer of new SHRUS-4 grease on it. Also lubricate the cavities of the CV joint body and the boot with the same grease (quantity - at least 40 g). Perform further installation of the CV joint in the reverse order.
